Is Laser Treatment for Rosacea Permanent?
Every year, several patientseek out Dr. Sutkin for rosacea laser treatment, hoping the therapy will permanently rid them of their case of rosacea. And when these patients visit Dr. Sutkin, he politely tells them they’ve been misinformed. You see, while other doctors may use rosacea laser treatment, it isn’t the most advanced, state-of-the-art option for treating cases of rosacea. Instead, Dr. Sutkin uses a pulsating, light-based therapy called BBL, or Broadband Light, which is not a laser.
Why is BBL Better Than Rosacea Laser Treatment?
BBL, created by an American company called Sciton, is better than rosacea laser treatment because it specifically targets skin pigmentations. This light therapy pulsates deep within the skin and, depending on which filter is used, targets red or brown skin pigmentations. This means that BBL is a solution not only for rosacea but other skin conditions such as uneven complexion and age spots.
What is a BBL Treatment Like?
When patients come to Dr. Sutkin for BBL light therapy, they will have a cool gel applied to their face. Dr. Sutkin will then use the handheld modality on their face to target the red pigmentation. Sometimes, a session can even be as fast as 15 or 20 minutes, though individual treatment times do vary. Afterwards, BBL rosacea patients will notice that they have some redness on their face from the treatment, which usually goes away in a few hours t a few days. And perhaps one of the greatest benefits of BBL, aside from its effectiveness, is that there’s no downtime! You can come in for a BBL treatment session in the morning and head to work that same day!
How Many BBL Treatment Sessions Will You Need?
BBL isn’t a one-time treatment. Many rosacea patients find that they need somewhere between 3 to 5 sessions of BBL around once every 3 – 4 weeks to clear up their active case of rosacea. Remember, though, that individual results will vary, which is why Dr. Sutkin spends so much time with his patients preparing a personalized treatment plan for them. You may require more treatments, or you may find that you need less. Every BBL rosacea patient is unique!
Are the Results from BBL Rosacea Treatment Permanent?
Rosacea is a condition that can flare up and return. Therefore, Dr. Sutkin recommends to his patients that in addition to their initial treatment sessions to clear up their current, active case of rosacea, that they also come in for regular maintenance treatments with BBL. The intervals at which you’ll need to come in for routine maintenance all depend on your unique case. But guess what? There’s an even greater benefit of having maintenance BBL treatments than preventing rosacea. Routine BBL treatments can also help with skin rejuvenation, and prevent sun damage and signs of aging.
If you have rosacea, see Dr. Sutkin immediately to discuss BBL light therapy. While the results aren’t permanent, with regular BBL treatments, the results can be long lasting, providing you with the best possible facial skin.
